JOHN BUGDEN Convict and Pioneer
bugden.bigpondhosting.com/
In 1876 a remarkable old man lay dying at his Pelican Creek farm on the Far North Coast of New South Wales. It was a long way from the little village of Farley in distant Wiltshire where he was born in 1798. Perhaps he thought about the near sinking of his convict ship in the Atlantic Ocean as it transported him to Australia and 14 years of convict servitude. Maybe he recalled that on opposite sides of the world he had twice escaped the hangman's noose, that he had twice survived confinement in prison Hulks and twice been married. A daring overland trek by bullock team from the Hunter Valley to pioneer new farms in the Richmond River wilderness with his extended family must also have been in his thoughts. Follow the links to read his story in detail.

Perring Family History (Australian Branch)
members.optushome.com.au/mixwins/History1.htm
Introduction As most would know, to trace a family to it's roots is a path that leads every which way, with bends and curves, hills and valleys, highways that lead to sheer walls of nothing and overgrown foot tracks that meander into clearings of knowledge and ancestral beauty. To pursue these trails within the borders of one country is an adventure, to try and carry on this type of expedition from another is perhaps an adventure, with all the traps and pitfalls that nature and fate can devise to deter you along the way. Only with the assistance of the most trusted local guides and experienced bearers can the truth be found. In recent years the introduction of the home computer, the internet and email have brought people seeking answers to the missing branches to their family tree together with the ability to share information more readily. What follows is not only of the Perring family in Australia, but all those from England and elsewhere that have contributed. Although the validity of some information can never be confirmed, if included, with that which can be a presumption of the facts is possible. The name Perring originated in England in the 11th century, coming from Pierrun, a Norman name, which entered England with the troops of William the Conqueror in 1066. Nicholas Pierrun, is recorded in the Doomsday Book, the first English census taken in 1066-1086. Later the English version appeared as Perring and was noted and recorded to William Perring, the County of Sussex in the year 1332. The family has a coat of arms with the inscription "Impovidum feriunt ruinae" meaning, "The ruins strike him undismayed."

The Children of William and Euphemia Johnson
johnson.reg.tripod.com/children.html
My name is Reg and I am a descendant of William Johnson, Frank Ritchie Johnson, Reginald William Johnson. I am keen to locate any descendants of William Johnson. I have been researching for some time now. It is an off and on process. But eventually I will get all those vital names to piece together the Johnson's. It is important to me to keep a track of all the Johnsons so that those in the future can relate back to their ancestors. Hopefully the details I am searching for will be fruitful. Below I have appended some names for consideration. You may recognise some and, if this is the case, please contact me. The details are a little sketchy because I feel it is not right to lodge all names on the internet for privacy reasons. The immediate names that relate to me are, of course, Johnson, Jackson, Shea, Robertson and Rankin. A lot of the names relate to marriages. However, if you can relate to one of these name I am only too willing to help you. ______ Descendants of William JOHNSON 1 William JOHNSON ..+Euphemia Petrie ROBINSON ........2 Frank Ritchie JOHNSON ............+Susan SHEA ........2 Edith Clarence JOHNSON ............+Charles DAVIS ........2 Ernest Robert JOHNSON ........2 George Christopher JOHNSON ........2 George Hastie JOHNSON ............+Margaret Marie HANSON ........2 Jane Ellinor JOHNSON

LAWSON FAMILY AUSTRALIA
users.tpg.com.au/treuel/LAWSON%20AUSTRALIA.htm
A BRIEF HISTORY Andrew Lawson was born in Scotland about 1787 and was married to Jane Cunningham on the 9th August 1806 at Inveresk, Musselburgh, Midlothian Scotland. (Another source lists Jane's surname as Henderson-Conyngham). They had 11 children with son Robert Lawson being born in Leith Scotland in 1812. A brother John was born in 1810 and a sister Janet was born 1808. Robert Lawson, our great-great grandfather married Susannah Allen who was born in Hampshire England 20th March 1812 and was baptised in the Mitcheldever Circuit Primitive Methodist Church. They were married on 8th October 1835, in the Parish of East Stratton, Hampshire, England by the Rev. C.R. Dallas. Susannah's parents were John and Elizabeth Allen. John Allen appears to have been the head gardener at Statton Park. Apparently the Lawsons and the Allens left Scotland at the same time.

Ireland-Australia transportation database
www.nationalarchives.ie/search/index.php?category=18
The National Archives of Ireland holds a wide range of records relating to the transportation of convicts from Ireland to Australia covering the period 1788 to 1868. In some cases these include records of members of convicts' families transported as free settlers. To mark the Australian Bicentenary in 1988, the Taoiseach presented microfilms of the most important of these records to the Government and People of Australia as a gift from the Government and People of Ireland. A computerised index to the records was prepared with the help of IBM and is available for use at various locations in Australia. While the collection of convict petitions dates from the beginning of transportation from Ireland to Australia in 1791, all transportation registers compiled before 1836 were destroyed in the Four Courts fire of June 1922. Therefore, if the person you are researching was convicted before 1836, but was not the subject of a petition, he or she will not appear on this database. In other words, the records from which the transportation database was compiled such as the transportation registers, convict reference files and petitions to government for pardon or commutation of sentence, are incomplete. Online search To search the transportation database, please click on the following link: Ireland-Australia transportation database

Sydney Benevolent Asylum for the period 1857-1900.
www.sydneybenevolentasylum.com/
This website deals with the historical records of the Sydney Benevolent Asylum for the period 1857-1900. The records of the Asylum can be the answer to many research problems and, with that in mind, between 1995 and 2007, an index of the inmates of the Asylum was compiled from records held at the Sydney Mitchell Library. The resulting database contains over 78,000 records. As far as has been possible, it is a listing of all the inmates of the Asylum between 1857 and 1900. We are grateful to The Benevolent Society for permission to prepare this index and to the staff of the Mitchell Library for their co-operation with our project. We also thank the State Library of NSW for permission to reproduce the image 'Benevolent Asylum' (Government Printing Office, State Library of NSW ref 1-08079) on this website. Degrees of Kinship
www.mystatewill.com/degrees_of_kinship.htm
The degrees of kinship are used to determine the "next of kin" or most closely related family members. According to the rules of civil law, each person counts as one degree. To determine any person's degree of relation to the decedent, begin with the decedent and follow the line that connects the decedent with the other person. Each person that must be passed through before reaching the final person adds one degree to the total, including the final person. Certain relations are linked to definitions of that title in comparison to other relations.

Rob Roy
mysongbook.de/msb/songs/r_clarke/robroy.htm
This song relates to fact: this Rob Roy was the youngest son of the more famous Scottish rebel - Rob Roy McGregor. He abducted a wealthy widow, Jean Key, and forced a form of marriage, and himself, upon her. What is not here related is that Rob Roy and his brothers were forced to release Jean Key, and Rob Roy was eventually hanged. The tune really is supposed to change for verses 7 and 8. The first tune used here is Bonny House, and the second part is called Haud awa frae me Donald.
